An Event that Changed Me
Everyone has been through a bad situation in his/her life. I lost my father when I was twenty years old. Since then my life has changed. The death of someone you really love is sometimes indescribable.
I was so close to my father. Every day I enjoyed meals with my family because my father took the time to ask about how our day was and what we had learned at school. After lunch, his routine was to take a nap and he always called to me “Chichi come and pass your hand over my head”. Sometimes I didn’t want to go but most of the time I went and I massaged his head until he slept. I loved him but sometimes he made me angry. He was very strict like Trujillo. I didn’t go out without his authorization. Even though I was sometimes afraid of him, I loved him.
One day, my father got sick and he had surgery. All of us thought that he was healthy and he never told to us that the doctor had found a malignant polyp in his intestine that needed treatment. Two years later, he got cancer. My family and doctors decided that it was best for him to go abroad to get chemo therapy. When my father was 19 years old he was deported from the Dominican Republic to the US for political problems. Luckily, he got residence here but he hated the US and returned back to the DR when he was in his 20s and the political problems had ended. However, he had never given back his resident card or social security card. This is why my mother and he decided to go to Florida. My father had worked here for a few years so he received all his medical care for free. My brother and I stayed alone at home in DR. I was nineteen years old when my life took a 360° turn. I had all the responsibility in the house like paying the bill, going to supermarket, attending my mother’s business, going to college and studying. I was overwhelmed. I was stressed and my stomach ached constantly.
The situation got worse, I got sick and my parents were worried about me and they suggested that I join them in the US. I dropped out of college and I went to Florida. I left all the responsibility to my brother. My father received almost two years of therapy. Then, when the cancer spread he deteriorated and died. It was extremely sad for me and my family. I was depressed for almost one year. I didn’t do anything like study or have fun with my friends. But I learned that in life nothing is easy.
The death of my father had a huge impact on my life. My life changed. I understood when I was alone that parents have a lot of responsibility with their children and they work a lot to carry them forwards.

How has music influenced your life?
Music has a big impact on people all over the world. Music as an art has been existent in this world for centuries. The influence of the music in the human being life has been used to manage the aggressiveness and the tranquility, in the same way it is used to relax, to sleep, to stimulated or concentrate. In my case I think music has influenced me in diverse aspects in my life.
First of all, music has the power to change my state of mind. Music can calm and revitalize me in many ways. When I feel depressed and I have a bad day the only thing that can help me is to listing music because it helps me with my mood and changes my feeling. Even when I feel that world is against to me, I turn on a radio and close my eyes, and focus my attention in other directions, and then things change. For example, I used to listen “cuando el mundo da vueltas” by Diego Torres. This song makes me feel strong and hopeful. Also music can elevate my moods above my personal fears and reduce stress.
Music helped me with my religious. Christian music helps me to understand that the meaning of life is God, our creator. Without God in my heart nothing is good in life because he changed my live when my life was a disaster. When I am listening to Christian music my spirit is fortified and my faith increases. I can feel peace in my heart, a peace that the world cannot give me but only God can give me. Inspires me to have a beautiful relationship with my God, reason why every day I try to be a better person. I used to hear a song called “come I need you” by Lilly Goodman. This song describe that God is the one only that mean sense in our life. Through the music I can praise and give him thanks because he changes my life.
In my sentimental life music had played an important role because it makes me feel pleased. Since I was kid, I enjoyed listening to my father sing with his guitar. Every weekend my father sang and I liked one song called “Guantanamera”. When I heard his beautiful voice, I felt proud of him and I love him more. My father passed way but when I hear “Guantanamera” I just remember my father and his gorgeous voice came to my mind again. My first time that I feel in love, I used to listen a song that inspired me to love.

In conclusion, music has a big impact in life. Many people had been influenced by music in different ways. Through music I had change many aspects of my personality. Music teaches me how to manage my state of mind, to learn more about my God (Jehovah) the omnipotent, and love each other.

Censorship

Censorship was created to control the freedom of expression. Freedom of expression is a factor that expresses that we live in a democratic society. Because of this, there are people that do not agree with censorship. But I believe that some material in the media that increases racial, religious or other indiscretion among the people should be censored.

Unfinished music Two Virgins by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969 was censored. Two Virgins was banned because of the cover. The cover showed John Lennon with his wife nude. This is the reason why the government disapproved of the public sale of it. The government forced stores to sell the album in a brown paper inner sleeve. Lennon challenged saying that all disorder wasn’t about nudity, it was because the couple were rather unattractive. In my opinion all obscene material must be censored by the law because it can be dangerous for our children and teenagers because can affect the morality and God after Adan y Eva sinned God cover they body after God throw away them from the Garden of Eden.

Madonna “crucifixion of Christ” scene concert was censored on 22 November 2006. Madonna wanted to show how many children died from AIDS. The American Family Association and Christian right forced the channel NBS, to delete the crucifixion scene that was to appear in the concert. The religions leaders said that the scene was a blasphemous because was an insult to Jesus Christ. Madonna in her defense said that her performance is neither anti Christian, sacrilegious or blasphemous and she only wanted to encourage people to help one another and see the world united. In my opinion, even though it is not a sin to show the world the truth the truth that we are living. It is a way to teach us how to make a better world, where everyone has the same privilege I disagree with her because she has to respect a theology of every religion.

Another example of censorship took place in Puerto Rico in the 1990s. Reggaeton was banned because the government thought that it was insulting to the high class of Latin America. The government said that people weren’t allowed to listen this kind of music, and the lyrics of the reggaeton were too violent, vulgar, sexual and offensive for woman and the high class society. The reggaeton singers in their defense said that it was a misunderstanding, especially in question to the woman. Then the new reggaeton musician began to clean up the lyrics to may sure that the radio would play it. Finally the reggaeton became acceptable. I think that some lyrics must be censored when it has curse and violent words and offended the moral principles of a person.

Censorship is an important and essential part of the society because without the presence of censorship the world would be a complete disaster. Censorship helps to clear out the appearances of nudity, offensive violence and other obscene gestures through the Medias.
